Printable Checklists

Explain how the public printable checklist downloads work, when to use the blank PDF versus a jurisdiction-specific version, and how they relate to the in-app export tools.

Purpose

Explain how the public printable checklist downloads work, when to use the blank PDF versus a jurisdiction-specific version, and how they relate to the in-app export tools.

Who this is for

  • people who want a paper-first way to start planning
  • caregivers helping a parent, spouse, or dependent offline
  • workshop organizers or professionals who need a leave-behind handout
  • users who want a simple printable checklist before creating an account

What you can do here

Styx now offers two public printable checklist paths:

  • a blank printable 53-item PDF at the public printable checklist page
  • jurisdiction-specific printable checklist PDFs linked from each public state and territory guide

Both versions use the same seven sections and 53 checklist items that Styx uses in the app.

The blank PDF is better when you want a generic handout or paper worksheet.

The jurisdiction-specific PDF is better when you want the same printable structure plus summary notes about local terminology and planning flags that Styx can responsibly surface for that jurisdiction.

Step-by-step instructions

Download the blank printable checklist

  1. Open the public printable checklist page.
  2. Select Download the blank PDF.
  3. Save or print the file.

Use this version for workshops, general referrals, or low-tech planning sessions where you want the full 53-item checklist without jurisdiction-specific detail.

Download a jurisdiction-specific printable checklist

  1. Open the public guide for your state or territory.
  2. Find the Prefer a paper checklist? section.
  3. Select Download printable [jurisdiction] checklist PDF.
  4. Save or print the file.

This version includes the same full checklist plus jurisdiction-aware summary cards based on the public state or territory landing-page data.

Move from paper to the app later

  1. Start with the printable checklist if you want a low-friction planning session.
  2. When you are ready, open Styx in the browser.
  3. Work through the same sections online to capture notes, statuses, contacts, documents, assets, and reminders.

The printable PDFs are a planning aid. They do not sync data back into the app automatically.

Important caveats or limitations

  • Printable checklists are informational and organizational tools only.
  • They do not create legal documents.
  • Jurisdiction-specific printables only include the public summary information Styx can responsibly expose today.
  • Territory printables may emphasize universal guidance and local-resource review rather than deeper legal overlays.
  • The public printable PDFs are separate from the authenticated export page, which can generate personalized checklist PDFs that include your statuses and notes.

Common mistakes

  • Assuming the blank printable PDF contains personalized checklist progress.
  • Expecting a paper checklist to sync back into Styx automatically.
  • Treating a jurisdiction-specific printable as legal advice instead of a planning aid.
  • Confusing the public printable downloads with the account export tools in Settings or the export page.
