Terms of Service
Last updated: March 8, 2026
1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using Styx ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, do not use the Service.
2. Description of Service
Styx is a web-based tool that helps users organize their estate planning and end-of-life preparation. It provides checklists, guidance content, and data entry forms to track your planning progress.
3. Not Legal, Financial, or Tax Advice
Styx is for informational and organizational purposes only. Nothing in this application constitutes legal, financial, or tax advice. Use of Styx does not create an attorney-client, fiduciary, or advisory relationship of any kind.
Estate planning laws vary by state and change over time. The guidance content in Styx may be incomplete, outdated, or inapplicable to your specific situation. You should consult a licensed attorney, certified financial planner, or qualified tax professional before making any legal, financial, or tax decisions.
4. Experimental Software
Styx is under active development and is provided as an experimental application. Features may change, break, or be removed without notice. Data loss is possible. Do not rely on Styx as your sole record of estate planning information. Always maintain independent copies of important documents and decisions.
5. User Accounts
- You may use Styx without an account (guest mode). In this case, all data is stored locally in your browser.
- If you create an account, you are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials.
- You must provide a valid email address when registering.
- You may delete your account at any time from the Settings page, which permanently removes all your data from our servers.
6. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose.
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to other users' data or accounts.
- Interfere with or disrupt the Service or its infrastructure.
- Use automated systems to make excessive requests to the Service.
7. Your Data
You retain ownership of all data you enter into Styx. We do not claim any rights to your content. See our Privacy Policy for details on how your data is collected, stored, and protected.
8. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Styx and its creators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of data, loss of profits, or damages arising from reliance on the guidance content provided by the Service. The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied.
9. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Styx and its creators from any claims, damages, or expenses arising from your use of the Service or your violation of these terms.
10. Changes to These Terms
We may update these terms from time to time. Changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
11. Governing Law
These terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Washington, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.
